Battle Abbey Trip 2023
On Friday 22 September, Year 7 attended the first school trip of the academic year to Battle Abbey, where they took part in a re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings. After arriving in Battle, the famous Abbey, built by William, Duke of Normandy, to mark the sight of the Battle of Hastings, was only a short walk away. Once there, students found many exciting ways to interact with the living history. This included visiting the ruins of dormitories, watching a film describing the events of the Battle of Hastings in a mini-cinema, and the opportunity to see some replica weaponry used by those who fought in the battle. Then came the main event, students took to the field to re-enact the Battle of Hastings. With one team representing William, Duke of Normandy, and the other representing Harold Godwinson, with cheers and encouragement supplied by Mrs Young, the students had a fantastic time acting in role and laughing with friends. After spending some time to eat lunch and have fun in the play area, Year 7 visited the Battle Abbey gift shop, where they found a plethora of sweets, jewellery, toys and other mementos to remember their trip by. Then, it was back to the coach to return home and tell their friends and family about the amazing time they had. Mrs Young would like to say well done to all of the students, who were engaged and extremely well behaved throughout the entire visit. She would also like to say thank you to the staff who helped out on the trip.
