To support students in their understanding on how History can give them an understanding of the world they live in, how their actions and choices impact on the world and develop resilience, support their understanding of various cultures and ideologies, and give them the skills they need to explore their identity. Students are challenged to ask questions, engage in moral debates, and justify decisions made by victors & decision-makers which have shaped generations and continue to impact on current & future generations, interlinking ideas and concepts. As they journey through the curriculum, students identify, develop, apply, and master core skills to equip them for tomorrow’s world, understanding that learning has no limits.

Global Detectives after school on Wednesdays where students take on a more hands-on approach to their learning with model making, and battle re-enactments and a Debate Club held on Thursday lunchtime where students engage in topical issues affecting the world we live in today. Students take part in the annual VIAT Public Speaking Inter-School Competition in April, where they battle their wits against a range of seen and unseen topics. In addition, the History department take an active lead on whole-school occasions such as Black History Month, Remembrance Day, Holocaust Memorial Day, and LGBT+History Month to support our student’s understanding of identify and self-worth and in turn their potential.
