Welcome from Mr Royston
On behalf of all our students, staff and wider school community, I would like to thank you for taking an interest in the School of Science and Technology Maidstone (SST).
SST is part of Valley Invicta Academy Trust (VIAT), a cluster of primary and secondary schools that work together in collaboration to support one another. Each with their own context, ethos, strengths, and areas for development - to work together to enable every single child, and every member of our team, to be the very best they can be.
VIAT was thrilled to open the doors of SST to students in September 2020, and since then we have established an extremely positive culture amongst students, staff, and the wider school community; they are proud to be part of the SST community. We were extremely pleased to be recognised by Ofsted as an Outstanding school in all categories in January 2023.
SST is a school at the heart of the community that nurtures, educates, and prepares our students to excel in an ever-changing world by empowering them with confidence, resilience, knowledge and skills to make a positive societal impact. We focus on developing skills, relationships and knowledge that equips our young adults to flourish in all aspects of their life beyond their time at SST.
Being a part of the SST community means having the very highest of expectations of ourselves and each other, reaching to truly fulfil our potential. We understand that mistakes will be made but it is important that we learn from them.
Our top priority is ensuring that our children are both happy and safe, we do this through exceptional care, education, and opportunities. We expect everyone at SST to be responsible for themselves and their behaviours, be ready to take on the challenges that lay ahead, be respectful of the environment and other people, be resilient when faced with something they find hard and embody our value of reach becoming the very best they can be.
The staff at SST are the bedrock of the school, the foundation upon which the school is built. They are some of the most important people at SST because the life chances of our students lay in their hands. That responsibility is a privilege. High quality teaching and learning is paramount, as such our staff continually develop their practice and regularly engage with research into the pedagogy of teaching.
When you visit us, you will experience the good relationships between our students and between students and staff, as well as the strong focus on students' academic success. Despite Science and Technology being in our name and locally being referred to as the STEM school, we are so much more than that. You will see a broad curriculum, fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities, a wide range of enrichment activities and a disruption-free learning environment. There is a place for everyone in our school; no matter what their ability, background or interests are, and all we ask is that everyone gives their very best in everything they do.
