Gaza Assembly
This week, the History department has been delivering an important assembly raising awareness on the war in Gaza. Our teachers of diverse backgrounds showed a united front for our students and staff to amplify humanity and reduce any feelings of antisemitism or islamophobia that may be on the increase due to the war. Our assembly brought up the importance of impartiality and used UN resources and statistics. We set out the context of the region and why there has been unrest for over seven decades. One of our History teachers, Ms Begovic, shared with the school some of her experiences of being a child during a war, making links to the children who are the biggest and most innocent victims of conflicts. The assemblies have been received very well, leading to staff and students wanting to learn more, be better informed and learning the importance of doing research and not leaning on the first source they come across. To learn more about the war in Gaza, we recommend visiting a variety of sources but suggest starting with the U.N. website (which can be found via the link here) and BBC Newsround website (which can be found via the link here). Please see below some parts of our assembly. We hope that this is a conversation that will continue at home, as we all together tap into our humanity, feeling that we are global citizens and caring about those experiencing trauma even though they are geographically far away.
