World Book Day 2025
On Thursday, 6 March, SST students joined young people in over 100 countries around the world to celebrate World Book Day. A host of activities were on offer, including those both inside and outside of the classroom.
Students began the day by taking part in a virtual reading-themed escape room in form time. The challenge was created especially for SST students, and included scrambled book titles, fill-the-blank book quotes and a numerical code, all to escape the library of Stories, Secrets and Treasures. 11C were the quickest to escape and as such have won a prize to share between themselves, which will be delivered to their form room next week. Well done 11C!
All students were also encouraged to complete a World Book Day Bingo sheet, which allowed them find out the reading habits of the adults in their lives – both at home and at school. A prize was also given to the first student to complete this in full. Well done to Jennifer M in 9L.
In the library, a host of activities were on offer, including make-your-own book-recommending fortune tellers, colour-in bookmarks and collaborative reading mood boards.
The English department also arranged a host of reading-themed activities for students to complete in their lessons throughout the week. Their ‘Do Now’ task – the first activity in a lesson – challenged classes to match English teachers to pictures of their bookshelves. Students in Year 8 then moved on to creating informative leaflets about reading for pleasure.
