GCSE Food Tech Trip to Italy
Last week, several students studying GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition were fortunate enough to embark on a trip to the picturesque Sorrento, Italy. Renowned for its diverse Italian cuisine, particularly its famous lemons, the area provided an abundance of culinary exploration. During the trip, students spent their time savoring the region's culinary delights. This included a visit to an artisanal pasta factory situated in Gragnano, the birthplace of pasta, followed by an indulgent three-course tasting session. Additionally, students gained hands-on experience in crafting lemon gelato and sampled various other flavours. They acquired the art of crafting authentic Margherita pizza at a local pizzeria and learned how to make mozzarella at a nearby farm. Here, they also had the opportunity to taste an array of other products, ranging from olive oils to marmalades.
On the final day of our amazing visit, we embarked on an exhilarating adventure by climbing the majestic Mount Vesuvius, an iconic volcano steeped in history and geological significance. Following this, we descended to explore the ancient ruins of Pompeii, a city frozen in time by the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Walking through the remarkably preserved streets and buildings, we were transported back in time, gaining insight into the daily lives of its inhabitants and the tragic events that unfolded on that day.
