VIAT Public Speaking Competition

On Wednesday 17 April, for the first time, SST hosted the annual VIAT Public Speaking Competition led by Dr Millgate (IGS) and assisted by Mrs Young. Once again, students in all Year groups from Invicta Grammar School for Girls, School of Science and Technology, Valley Park School and The Lenham School really went above and beyond in their speeches. All students participated in two rounds. The first required each student to deliver a pre-prepared speech on one of the following topics: Peace, Climate, Travel and Food. For the second round, students had a 30-minute tea break in which to research and prepare one-minute speech from a choice of unseen material, which was a challenge. Students were judged by Mr Royston and Mrs Chapman on students’ quality of delivery, use of voice, projection, knowledge of topic, planning and content of speech and confidence. Once again, our students rose to the challenge, planning and delivering some rather thought-provoking speeches.
Congratulations to all students who participated as we now look forward to next year!
