National Indoor Rowing Championship
On Friday 1 March 2024 we took 15 students up to The Copper Box Arena in London to compete at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC), where each student competed in their age category and in a team competition.
The students were able to experience another year of competing on a national level, this year against 3,100 competitors across all races from all over the UK, with many competing for their Rowing Clubs.
A huge well done to all who competed and the 8 students who were able to set themselves a new PB on the day. We would like to give a special shout-out to Isla W 7H who finished 2nd in her individual race, which equated to 6th overall nationally against 287 competitors, rowing 492m in 2 minutes. This is a phenomenal achievement and we are all very proud of you!
Another special mention goes to the Year 9 boys’ team, Arturas B, Nyall K, Toby B and Bobby F, who finished 13th in the London event and 19th overall in the Team event, rowing over 2,112m against 153 Teams. Another phenomenal achievement, considering they didn’t spend much time practising the changeovers for the Team race.
